For some time, it has been known that Volkswagen has been working on an electric van based on its iconic minibuses from the 70s and 80s. It also showed off the ID.Buzz concept but has now confirmed plans for a van called the ID California Electric Camper Van. This was shown in a presentation. The ID.Buzz concept was first unveiled in 2017 which was quite attractive but it has evolved the concept over the years.

The company plans to bring electric vans to the US market by 2023 and has even invested in the production of electric microbuses in the US. Production is expected to begin in both Germany and the US. There will also be a camper version, indicated by the California nomenclature that Volkswagen uses for its camper models.

ID.Buzz is already being tested

Coming to the specifications, this minibus is expected to pack a 100 kWh battery, probably something even bigger. ID.Buzz had a battery pack of 111 kWh which can provide a range of 321 km. The standard model may cost under $50,000, but the camper version will almost certainly cost more because the already more expensive conventional internal combustion engine versions.

While I.D. Buzz is expected to launch next year, with the California model likely to take longer.
