Erode:

The opposition AIADMK on Wednesday alleged that voters in Erode East assembly constituency were confined to booths by DMK men who served them food and gave them cash.

The party also claimed that district officials were targeting AIADMK’s election vehicles and that there was no level playing field in campaigning in the constituency facing a bypoll on February 27.

Former AIADMK minister of state CV Shanmugam said, “The ruling DMK people have put up tents at all the booths and locked up the voters who are given food and cash on a daily basis. Election Commission of India Immediate steps should be taken to remove the shamiana and free the voters.” told reporters here.

He said that people from the ruling DMK met voters and got votes, AIADMK was not allowed to campaign.

AIADMK Rajya Sabha member Shanmugam alleged, “The Election Commission has not removed the names of 40,000 ineligible voters from the list. It is acting like the DMK’s election arm.”

“Two observers were appointed for the constituency, but it is not known where they are. The district officials and police are under DMK’s control. Every party has a democratic right to seek votes,” he said. Ensure a free and fair poll.
