Voting begins for elections to four municipal corporations in Bengal

Voting began at 7 am on Saturday for the elections to the municipal corporations of Bidhannagar, Asansol, Siliguri and Chandannagar in West Bengal.

Kolkata: Voting began at 7 am on Saturday for the elections to the municipal corporations of Bidhannagar, Asansol, Siliguri and Chandannagar in West Bengal. Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the police in all the four municipal areas located in different parts of the state to ensure a peaceful conduct of the polls, an official said.

According to the notification of the West Bengal State Election Commission, polling will be held till 5 pm and the counting of votes for the four municipal bodies will take place on February 14. A total of 203 candidates are contesting in the 41 wards of Bidhannagar, while 200 candidates are in the fray. According to the SEC website, contest in 47 wards of the Siliguri civic body.

In Chandannagar, 120 candidates are contesting for 33 wards and 430 in Asansol’s 106 wards. In 2015, the Left Front won the Siliguri civic polls, while three other municipal corporations were secured by the TMC.
