Vyapam scam: High court grants conditional bail to 9 former officials of private medical colleges

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has granted conditional bail to nine former officials of private medical colleges accused of cheating, forgery, among other offenses related to the Pre-Medical Test PMT-2013 for admission to MBBS courses under the multi-crore Vyapam scam. In its order, the court said that in the event of arrest, the petitioners can be released on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.

A division bench of Justices S Nagu and MS Bhatti on Friday imposed certain conditions on the accused persons, including that they shall not seek unnecessary adjournment during the trial. The court accepted the bail applications of SN Vijayvargiya, former president of People’s College of Medical Science and Research Center in Bhopal, Dr Ajay Goenka, then secretary of Viva Charitable Foundation Bhopal and Suresh Singh Bhadauria, then president of Mayank Welfare Society Indore.

Others who were granted bail include Dr Ravi Saxena, former member of the admission committee of Viva Medical College and Hospital, SN Saxena and Dr Vijay Kumar Pandya, former dean of People’s College of Medical Science and Research Centre, Arun Kumar Arora, former employee. Dr Virendra Mohan, former Dean of Index Medical College Indore and Viva Medical College and Hospital. According to the order, the petitioner cannot seek unnecessary adjournment during the hearing, cannot leave India without the permission of the trial court, the investigating officer, cannot indulge in inducement, threat or promise to any person familiar with the facts of the case. .

The petitioners’ counsel Ajay Gupta submitted that the applicants took the ground that the CBI, which is probing the admission and recruitment scam, had filed the chargesheet on February 17 before a special court in Bhopal, stating that the questioning is completed. Anticipating his arrest in a criminal case registered at Police Station CBI, Bhopal for offenses under section 420 (cheating) and other related provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Recognized Examination Act, 1937, IT Act, Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Arms Act.
