A walkathon was taken out by general public including farmers, women, students and fishermen in Ramanathapuram Town organized by Paddy Foundation on Saturday.
Flagging off the campaign, Additional Collector (Development) KJ Praveen Kumar said that such public participation would help in educating the public about their rights and responsibilities.
Starting from Aranmanai, the walkathon reached the new bus stand through the main routes. The student community distributed pamphlets to shopkeepers and others on the need to keep the environment clean and green.
The farmers and women walking on the streets also said that Dhan Foundation has worked towards a clean eco-system. The water level in the block has been increased by keeping the water sources clean and free from any kind of encroachment. “We have to lay a foundation for our children…” he said.
The participants also urged the youth to develop clean habits and spread awareness about the evils of alcohol and tobacco.
