Surat: It was salt of injury when flood waters completely blocked National Highway 48 on Thursday. The already potholed highway was in pathetic condition between Bharuch to backWhere in many places the craters were almost a foot deep!
Not only the National Highway but also some important roads connecting the National Highway are badly damaged. Earlier this week, a video of a potholed road in Vapi-Silvassa went viral on social media.
whereas National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials blame rain for the damage, claiming that the repair work is done at regular intervals but the rain causes potholes again. But the fact remains that even while interacting with potholed roads, poor commuters heading towards Mumbai have to pay toll charges at three places in Surat, Navsari and Vapi.
Service Road Beside Flyover Kadodara The intersection had to be blocked as there was a danger of heavy vehicles getting unbalanced and overturning due to the presence of huge potholes. Thousands of vehicles pass through the road every day and at many places it creates a situation of jam.
Potholes are not only causing damage to vehicles but also posing a threat to life and property due to possible accidents.
For those traveling long distances, the highway is used only at intervals, but for locals, crossing these places is a daily obstacle challenge.
“When I was at the Kadodara intersection, the front bumper of my car touched the road because the entire front wheel was in a pothole. A nightmare for regular commuters passing through these intersections,” said Hitesh PatelResident of Kadodara.
NHAI officials claim that despite repairs, rain and vehicular movement repeatedly damage the road. “The work of repairing the damaged roads is being carried out, but it is not stopping for long due to rain,” he said. We are now trying to repair the block using other methods,” an NHAI official told TOI.
