Washington Sundar tests positive for COVID, availability in doubt for SA ODIs

India all-rounder Washington Sundar has tested positive for Covid-19, and his availability for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa is in doubt.

Sources aware of the developments confirmed to ANI that Sundar is recovering after testing positive for COVID-19, but his participation in the upcoming ODI series has not been confirmed.

The source added, “Yes, Sundar has indeed tested positive for COVID-19. He is recovering now, however, it is yet to be specified whether he will be available for the ODIs against South Africa. Or not.”

It has been almost a year for Sundar and he last played for India in March 2021.

He was recently part of the Tamil Nadu squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the competition, he performed extremely well and this earned him a call-up for the ODI series against South Africa.

If Sundar doesn’t make it in time, it will be interesting to see who the selectors replace.

There will be three ODIs between India and South Africa starting on January 19.
