WATCH: Elderly man plays Ukrainian national anthem in Russian-occupied Kherson, internet says “bravo”

Amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, a video showing an elderly man playing the national anthem of Ukraine while traveling on his mobility scooter has gone viral on the internet.

The video was shared by Alexander Sherba, former ambassador of Ukraine to Austria. In the post’s caption, Mr Sherba explained that the clip was shot in Russian-occupied Kherson. He said the elderly man decided to celebrate his birthday by driving through the crowd to the tune of Ukraine’s national anthem.

The video shows the old man playing the national anthem of Ukraine on a mobility scooter in a busy market area in Kherson. In the clip, where some people are seen smiling seeing the old gentleman, while some people are seen taking care of him.

Many people in the market also sing along with the national anthem. As the song ends at the end of the video, people are heard shouting loudly for the elderly man and are also seen coming forward to greet him.

Since being shared, the video has collected over 198,000 views. It has also garnered around 8,500 likes and hundreds of comments.

Kherson is located in southern Ukraine and was one of the first Ukrainian cities to be fully annexed by Russia at the end of February.
