WATCH: Greta Thunberg Dances To Rick Astley Song In Concert

Greta Thunberg was filmed dancing and singing at a climate concert.

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg surprised the crowd by dancing to a climate concert in Stockholm, Sweden, over the weekend. The 18-year-old sang and danced in front of an audience shouting to the 1980s song ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ by British singer Rick Astley. Greta Thunberg “recrawled” the audience during Climate Live on Saturday, a youth-led concert for climate action.

Climate Live shared footage of the teen activist dancing on stage on its Instagram.

The footage shows Greta Thunberg opening the performance to the audience with “We Are No Strangers to Love”—the opening song of the Rick Astley song.

A fellow worker on stage said, “You know the rules, and so do I.” The two then go out dancing on the speakers as ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. People in the audience were heard screaming when Greta Thunberg performed some impressive moves.

Rick Astley himself shared the footage on Twitter, describing it as “fantastic.”

Many on social media were delighted with Greta’s “recrawling”. Rickrolling is an Internet phenomenon that involves someone trying to open Rick Astley’s 80s hit song by sending a disguised URL.

Actually, this isn’t the first time Greta Thunberg has deployed Recroll. On April Fools’ Day, she tweeted that she “made a video to talk about some of the little things we all can and should do to stop the climate crisis.” Twitter users who clicked on the purported video link were directed to sing instead.

The concert was held ahead of COP26, the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, which is due in November.

Greta Thunberg, whose Friday for Future movement has inspired massive street protests around the world, said activists need to “push” for real change.

“As it is now, there won’t be any major changes from this COP, we have to keep going,” he told AFP on the sidelines of a climate concert in Stockholm.

Thousands braved the autumn cold to listen to the nearly 20 acts performed at the concert.
