Watch: Kumar Mangalam Birla shares his ‘favourite’ IIT Bombay campus joke

Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla attends 60th Convocation of Indian Institute technology (IIT) Mumbai as the chief guest on Saturday. While he inspired many students during his speech at the event, he also shared his “favourite” IIT Bombay joke, in which his friends often share a heartfelt laugh when they are together. Speaking at the event, Kumar Mangalam recalled visiting the campus for pre-placement sessions in the mid-90s and said that a lot has changed since then. The Aditya Birla Group mogul said he can never forget the famous campus jokes he heard from his IIT Bombay alumni.

He shared his favorite one: “My favorite, is the one I heard, goes like this – late at night, here on campus a lost auto driver asks a PhD student, ‘Bahar jaane kar rasta (what’s the way)’ of this premises)?’ And the student replies, ‘For four years I have been the same fog’.

The entire auditorium was left in pieces. Kumar Mangalam said that the orbit of 2022 certainly knows the way out of the complex. “Clearly all of you who are graduating today have had no such difficulty finding a ‘way out’,” he said.

He also mentioned that the complex is known as the engine of ideas. “I think we saw that soon after the outbreak of the pandemic, IIT Bombay made a fresh start with the VR convocation,” he said.

Kumar Mangalam’s speech was full of inspiration and advice for the future ahead for the graduating students. He said it was not just another date for all of them, it was a day to celebrate who they are and who they could be in the future. At the convocation he told the students, “So, soak in the glory, let the joy sink in and let the wonderful memories live again.”
