A viral video shows what it’s like to be face to face with a lion in the middle of the forest. This video posted on YouTube by ViralHog gives us a heartwarming glimpse of the encounter between a mountaineer and a mountain lion. It was a shocking incident not only for the audience but also for the passersby who filmed it. The video begins by showing us some of the beautiful mountain ranges and dry forest of the area. But soon the man starts running. When the camera turns backwards, we see a mountain lion following him. However, the hiker stopped and with “a roar at the last minute” was able to drive away the wild animal.
The incident took place on January 8, 2022 in Los Angeles, California, USA. The caption of the video read, “A mountain lion followed me, so I ran and scared it with a roar at the last minute.” The video has been liked more than 1,900 times on YouTube, where it has garnered 3.2 lakh views.
The audience praised the man for his presence of mind. One user wrote, “Nice call. Shouting like this confuses them. Predators don’t like confrontation if not to.” Another wrote on similar lines, “That’s exactly what you should do. Shout as intimidatingly as you can. If you run you’re only chasing them.”
Many were horrified wondering what would have happened if the man had not looked back to face the mountain lion. One user wrote, “Wow. If he hadn’t turned, it would have been a painful, horrifying ending for him.” Another comment read, “If you hadn’t looked back, it could have been your neck.”
Some even recounted their experiences with wild animals. In fact, hikers often spot mountain lions in the forests of California. Last year, Two Hikers in Southern California Encountered a lion that held its ground and watched them for about two minutes before retreating. These pedestrians also had to shout at the lion to drive it away.
