Watch: Neeraj Chopra’s bad condition, yet won gold in Kuorten Games

Indian track and field athlete and Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal at the Kuorten Games on Saturday with a throw of 86.69m in his maiden attempt.

However, all was not smooth for Chopra during yet another gold medal.

Chopra had fouled in his second attempt, after which he slipped during the third run-up.

The official handle of AFI tweeted, “Kurtane Se News: Neeraj Chopra all right after bad slip in third attempt. Nothing to worry about.”

The Cuortán Games (also known as the Cuortán Midsummer Games) are an annual athletics event in Cuortán. It was first organized in 1921. The event is organized by Kuortanen Kunto, Kuortanen Kunta and Cuortanen Sports College.

The 24-year-old from Chandigarh is the first track and field athlete to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics. He is also the first track and field athlete from India to win the IAAF World U20 Championship, where in 2016 he achieved a world under-20 record throw of 86.48m, becoming the first Indian athlete to set a world record.

After a brief period of injury, Chopra made a high-voltage return to competition on June 14 at the Pavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland. He won a silver medal in the competition with a throw of 89.30m, which is his personal best and national record.

Chopra has been designated as a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army. Neeraj Chopra was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
