According to Metro NewsOn Wednesday, six-year-old Meng Lan climbed the wall of her enclosure to gaze at zoo visitors in amazement. Staff members reportedly asked the curious crowd to keep their distance from Panda as he climbed the six-foot-high metal fence around his enclosure.

The “naughty” panda made it into a buffer zone that separates its enclosure from the area of the zoo that is open to the public, before being lured back with the promise of lunch. Beijing Zoo said in a post on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo that Meng Lan had never been in contact with the public and was never in an area of the zoo accessible to visitors. A zookeeper lured him back to his enclosure, who offered him food, and he was later seen happily playing inside. The zoo said the pandas reconsidered their zoo rest after smelling the food on offer.

The zoo said that Meng Lan had a history of mischievous behavior and that her enclosure would be modified to prevent any further escape attempts.

Meng Lan was born in 2015 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and moved to Beijing Zoo two years later.
