A viral clip on Twitter shows how Tesla’s self-driving software monitors vehicular traffic and identifies cars and motorcycles in its vicinity. The video shows a driver sitting inside a stationary Tesla looking at self-driving software on a screen while the camera switches between the road and the screen. The screen depicts vehicular traffic in real time with a blazingly accurate accuracy. “This is beyond wild,” wrote verified Twitter user John Rattinger, who shared the video. The clip shows the impressive technical capability of Tesla’s self-driving software that has been in controversy for causing crashes in other vehicles. It should also be mentioned that no self-driving car can be driven without human supervision, but technology is rapidly evolving to facilitate the driving experience.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk also reacted to the clip, promising further improvements in upcoming updates. “A neural net upgrade is coming that improves persistence in time and space (improved object permanence),” Musk said in response to the clip. In another reactionary tweet, the Tesla CEO said, “We will post finer details of software improvements going forward.”

All Tesla models come with an Autopilot option that allows the car to steer on its own, although the electric vehicle requires driver intervention when taking turns and managing speed.

Tesla buyers can also purchase FSD (full self-driving) software with a one-time payment of $199 per month or $10,000. FSD software allows Tesla cars to change lanes, recognize traffic lights and stop signs, and enter and exit highways. The FSD software comes with the added feature of automatic parking. Tesla cars will still require the full attention of the driver to avoid any accidents.

However, critics are not impressed with Tesla’s ‘self-driving’ marketing strategy as the cars still require constant human intervention. Tesla’s self-driving cars have also been involved in fatal accidents.
