However, a visitor to the zoo thought of showing the monkey a magic trick and the video went viral on the internet. The video was initially shared by Maximiliano Ibarra on TikTok.
In the clip, a man can be seen performing a simple magic trick for a monkey that is locked up at the Chapultepec Zoo in Mexico City. Ibara has what appears to be a leaf on the side of the monkey, which is a Japanese macaque. The monkey is sitting by the mirror in front of his enclosure, watching the man’s movement. When Ibara made the leaf disappear with the movement of the hand, the monkey jumped forward. His mouth remained open, and his eyes widened.

Ibara then reappeared the leaf and disappeared again, leaving the monkey stunned. After seeing the trick again, the monkey places a hand on his face and looks over his shoulder to see if anyone else has seen the magic. The monkey jumped back and forth against the mirror. Shocked by the magic trick, the monkey first tried to hide his face and later ran away.
Netizens are totally impressed with the monkey’s reaction and have termed it as “priceless”. One user wrote, “Hahaha, she is so cute.” Another user explained the monkey’s reaction, saying, “It was like don’t show me your human witchcraft.”
