Watch Ukrainian Air Force MiG-29 fighter jet destroy Russian target

The Ukraine-Russia war has exposed the downside of what a war looks like. There are many videos on social media in Ukraine showing the devastation caused by fighter jets and cruise missiles. Among those videos is also a rare video showing the launch and detonation of the missile. This phenomenon is rare because modern air combat involves fighter jets which usually have a long range and high speed making it difficult for video cameras to capture. However, a video on social media showed a MiG-29 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Air Force launching an air-to-air missile.

The missile, launched from a MiG-29 fighter jet, can be seen making a series of maneuvers and possibly detonating after hitting its target. Apart from this, the video also has the sound of a loud explosion of the missile. After the explosion, a woman can be heard screaming in the background. The woman says, “Wow, [it got] Shot down!”

The video was posted on October 22, 2022 and is a watermark of the Odessa Info Telegram channel. According to the description, which is linked to several reposts, the interception took place over Odessa and a Russian cruise missile was shot down. However, the video quality is insufficient to determine what type of target was intercepted.

A similar video, posted by the Ukraine Now Telegram channel on October 22, shows a fighter jet launching a missile, which detonated and exploded. According to the description of the video, it was shot in Chernivtsi Oblast in south-western Ukraine.

A post on the Telegram channel of the Chernivtsi Oblast Administration by Ruslan Zapraniyuk confirmed that a Ukrainian plane had indeed shot down a missile over Nistrovsky District. According to the post, the remnants of the missile landed in a lake.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia conducted a cruise missile attack on 22 October involving 17 Kh-55 (X-101) missiles launched by Tupolev Tu-160 and Tu-95 strategic bombers, as well as 16 3M – 54 Kalibr missiles were fired from ships stationed in the Black Sea. According to the statement, 18 of the 23 missiles were shot down. Some of these shootouts were likely captured in the video mentioned above.
