There are Punjabis wearing turbans, women in fancy Indian dress, and what appear to be Caucasian men who have blue cloths covering their heads according to Sikh customs.

What would you expect from Gurmeet Chadha’s tweet? Retweeted videos of companies’ complex revenue charts, their appearances on business news channels, and gave advice on which stocks to invest in. Isn’t it? However, the Managing Partner and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Complete Circle Wealth Solutions recently took to Twitter to share a video, and what he thought was a humorous take on it.

The tweet by Chadha contains a video in which a group of people, most likely part of a baraat (procession). There are Punjabis wearing turbans, women in fancy Indian dress, and what appear to be Caucasian men who have blue cloths covering their heads according to Sikh customs. The music that everyone is singing is provided by a few drummers and a band playing trombones, trumpets and tubas. Most would see it as a moment of celebration which also serves as a meeting point of two different cultures. However, Chadha had a different take on it.

In a tweet on Friday, January 20, he wrote, “Angrese se band aur dhol bajwa rahe hai Punjabi. Classic revenge by the Indians. (A lighter note on friends).” The first line roughly translates to, “Punjabi English playing bands and making drums.” It is likely that when he says “revenge”, Chadha is referring to British colonial rule over India. Referring to what is seen as 200 years of retribution.

The tweet has gone viral, garnering over 1.6 lakh views. So far mixed reactions are coming on Chadha’s comment and video. One person compared McAloo Tikki to McDonald’s as an adaptation to Indian taste and culture.

Since Chadha said “lighter note” in her tweet, one person posted “Tighter note!”

This was followed by this tweet from a user who called it an achievement. (Sarcastic? We’re unsure.)

One user jokingly suggested flogging, which is one of the most inhuman and excessive punishments.

Did you find this mix of cultures amusing on a happy occasion?
