WBSSC scam: Arpita Mukherjee showing signs of breakdown, says ED official

After the entire first day of questioning on Tuesday by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials probing the multi-crore West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment irregularities scam, officials of the central agency are getting different reactions from the former state. Huh. Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee.

ED sources said that since their arrest on Saturday, the officers got full opportunity to interrogate both Chatterjee and Mukherjee at the agency’s office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, for the first time.

While Arpita Mukherjee is kept in a lockup dedicated to women in that office, the investigating officers for Chatterjee have set up a temporary lockup in a conference room there.

“On Tuesday, two different teams of ours questioned Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee separately. At the end of the day we have seen that Arpita Mukherjee has started showing signs of breakdown and has started responding positively to the systematic questioning of our officers. On the other hand, Partha Chatterjee is still presenting a brave face in front of the interrogators and avoiding most of our questions on the pretext of being out of memory,” said an ED official.

Sources further said that Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee will be questioned separately for a day or two so that the interrogating officers can have a clear idea of the discrepancies in the statements of both in this regard.

After that both will face each other and interrogation will be done together.

“We have time till August 3 as both will be in our custody till that date. We hope that by that time we will get enough information about the remaining tentacles of the octopus in the multi-crore scam. “Based on the information secured, our higher officials will decide whether to file a petition for extension of both after August 3,” an ED official said.

Meanwhile, state Congress President and party veteran Lok Sabha member Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has written a letter to the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Tuesday. Mamata Banerjee Requested to remove Partha Chatterjee from all his ministerial posts.
