‘We are going to come back strong’ – Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma

MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has admitted that it was an “unexpected season” for the five-time Indian Premier League champions, which ended last. IPL 2022, and said that “team unity” was the biggest achievement as the team aims to find ways to win next season.

IPL 2022 proved to be the worst season for Mumbai Indians, with the team winning just four league games and losing 10 to finish 10th and last. Gujarat Titans took the lucrative league by storm, winning the title in its first year itself, with former Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hardik Pandya leading.

“It was an unpredictable season but we want to learn and reflect on the positive. It was great to see how the team sticks together and supports each other. Now it’s about how we look at the next season.” And how do we prepare. We managed to finish at a high level and that was important for us. We are going to come back strong,” said Sharma while reviewing the recently concluded season.

“Team unity is a good sign. I haven’t seen any of them lose. We stayed together as a family. They were trying to give their best in training and I am proud of that. The camaraderie in the team was great. We had a goal and everyone was working towards it,” said Sharma, under whose captaincy Mumbai have won five IPL titles.

Sharma was also impressed by the mindset of the youth.

“Some of them are going to be gun players in the future. He raised his hand and gave his best which was the happiest part of this season. They are mentally strong and have that appetite. Many of them were playing for the first time so it was our job to make them feel comfortable. Support from management is important here and I’m glad to know we have it. He gave us freedom and support and I can see a bright future for the team,” concluded Sharma.
