We should take textile exports to $100 billion by 2030: Piyush Goyal – Times of India

New Delhi: Union Minister Piyush Goyal On Tuesday, he advocated taking the country’s textile exports to $100 billion by 2030 as the sector is registering good growth. The Textiles Minister also said that exports will get a boost as the sector will get zero duty access to UAE and Australia.
India has entered into trade agreement with these two countries.
He said at a function here that India is trying to achieve zero duty access to the markets of EU, Canada, UK and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member countries.
India is negotiating a free trade agreement with these countries.
Textile exports stood at $43 billion in the last fiscal, up from $33 billion last year.
“This sector is growing at a fast pace and we should take exports to $100 billion by 2030. We will leave no stone unturned to achieve this aggressive growth and substantial target,” Goyal said.
He said that the present geo-political situation is changing and it provides huge opportunities for the industry to boost exports.
The Minister further stressed on the need to boost cotton production in the country as the current figure of around 500 kg per hectare is half of the world average.
The price of cotton today is high and the government is keeping a constant check on it, he said, adding that there is a need to strike the right balance so that both the farmers and the industry can get cotton at the right prices.
