‘We shouldn’t travel to India for ODI World Cup’- Jai Shah slams former Pakistan cricketers

BCCI Secretary and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman, Jay Shah’s comments on shifting the Asia Cup 2023 from Pakistan to a neutral venue has been strongly criticized by many former Pakistan cricketers.

Following Shah’s remarks, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement saying that Shah’s comments could hamper Pakistan’s participation in 2023. World cup. Earlier, Saeed Anwar and Shahid Afridi had already expressed their dismay, and now former Pakistan captain Younis Khan and former wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal have also joined the group.

Expressing views on Har Lamha Purjosh, a talk show on cricket by ARY News, both Younis and Akmal agreed that Pakistan should host the Asia Cup 2023 in the country, regardless of India’s participation.

The whole affair started when Shah, in a statement to ANI, said, “We will have the Asia Cup 2023 at a neutral venue. It is the government that decides on the permission of our team to go to Pakistan, so we will not comment on that, but for the 2023 Asia Cup, it has been decided that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue.

This did not go down well with the PCB as they responded with an official statement shared on their Twitter account.

“PCB takes note of with surprise and dismay at yesterday’s comments by ACC President Mr. Jay Shah regarding shifting of next year’s Asia Cup to a neutral venue. These comments were made without any discussion or consultation with the Board of the Asian Cricket Council or the Pakistan Cricket Board (event host) and without any consideration of their long-term consequences and implications,” the release read.
