‘We will be fine,’ says Karnataka man who recovered from Omicron Covid variant

A 34-year-old man who was the third person to test positive for the Omicron version of the coronavirus Karnataka, said on Thursday that he is now fine and assured people that the new strain does not cause severe symptoms if all precautions are followed.

“There is no reason to fear the Omicron version. The symptoms are mild, and I’ve seen it in South Africa as well. There was no reason for any serious hospitalizations,” said the person in a video after recovering from the Omicron version he said.

“Even for me, there was no need for hospitalisation. If we are careful, wear a mask and get vaccinated, we will be fine,” he said

The man said that he was sharing his experience as he was also infected with the first delta variant during the second wave and had taken both doses of the vaccine.

“I had two doses of the COVID vaccination. Despite this, I tested positive for the Omicron variant. When I was infected with the delta virus compared to the Omicron variant, I suffered much more,” he said.

The Bengaluru native returned to the city after a business trip in South Africa and was diagnosed with the Omicron variant on 12 December.

“I went to South Africa in the last week of November. I tested negative in the RT-PCR tests at Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL), Bengaluru. But, on the third day of my isolation, I developed symptoms of itchy throat and cough,” he said.

“I got the RT-PCR test done again in a private lab. The results confirmed the Covid-19 virus. Later, the samples were sent by the civic agency for genome sequencing, which found an omicron variant,” he said. said.

Further, he said that he did not panic as he had enough information and was admitted to the designated hospital. He was discharged on Tuesday, making him the first patient in the state to be cured of the Omicron variant.

“I self-isolated on my arrival from South Africa and my family members did not contract the virus. Those coming from abroad should maintain distance and follow the quarantine guidelines,” he said.

He said, “If symptoms come to the fore, without wasting time and carelessness, they should get tested and inform the health authorities. If this is done, we will prevent the infection from spreading to neighbors and nearby people,” he said. can stop.”

Five primary contacts and 15 secondary contacts of the man were traced and found to be Covid-19 negative.

Meanwhile, five more cases of Omicron type coronavirus were reported in Karnataka on Thursday, state Health Minister K Sudhakar said.

The minister informed that out of the five infected persons, three had returned from abroad and two of them had returned from Delhi. The countries included the UK, Nigeria and South Africa.

With this, the number of omicron cases has increased to eight in the state.
