Weather Update: Cold wave, dense fog engulfs Delhi and North India

Weather Update: After a few days of respite, the national capital Delhi again witnessed chilly mornings as the temperature dropped to 5.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Meanwhile, Delhiites woke up to a chilly morning as the temperature dropped below 7 degrees Celsius and dense fog reduced visibility.

Similar conditions are likely to prevail in Delhi as well, with morning temperature dropping up to 5 degree Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted that the minimum and maximum temperatures in January 2023 are likely to be below normal over many parts of central India and adjoining areas of peninsular, east and northwest India. According to meteorologists, the southern parts of South Peninsula, many parts of Northeast India and parts of Northwest India are likely to have normal to above normal minimum temperatures.

It also said, “Above normal maximum temperatures very likely over most parts of Northeast India and parts of Northwest, East and East Central India.”

It may rain in northwest India this month

The IMD has predicted below normal rainfall over northwest India comprising seven meteorological subdivisions (East Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh) for January 2023 (<78 ) per cent of the long period average (LPA), the IMD said on Sunday.
Rainfall over Northwest India is very likely to be below normal (<86 per cent of the long period average) over seven meteorological subdivisions (East Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh) ) (LPA)), the IMD said.

Monthly rainfall is likely to be below normal during January 2023 over the country as a whole. Rainfall is likely to be below normal over most parts of the country except many parts of south peninsular India and parts of central India where above normal rainfall is expected.

IMD warns of cold days

During January 2023, the monthly minimum temperatures are very likely to be below normal over many parts of central India and adjoining areas of peninsular, east and northwest India. Normal to above normal minimum temperatures are most likely over southern parts of the South
Peninsula, many parts of Northeast India and parts of North West India.

The monthly maximum temperature in January 2023 is likely to be below normal over many parts of central and peninsular India. Above normal maximum temperatures are very likely over most parts of Northeast India and parts of Northwest, East and East-Central India.
