Weather Update: Dust storm, heavy rain likely in Delhi-NCR today. check details

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that after continuous heat wave conditions for several days this month, there is a possibility of dust storm or thundershowers in the national capital region on Friday. Apart from this, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy intensity rain accompanied by dust storm.

According to IMD Tweet, “Thunderstorm/ Dust storm with moderate intensity, with heavy rain at isolated places and gusty winds with speed reaching 40-60 km/h will occur over the entire country and adjoining areas. Delhi and NCR (Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, Noida).”

Amid the possibility of rain and dust storm, the mercury in the national capital dipped to a fresh 25 degree Celsius at 0030 on Friday. Notably, northwest India recorded the warmest March this year in 122 years, with the mean maximum temperature surpassing the previous record of 30.67 °C in 2004.

Meanwhile, power demand in Delhi reached 5,735 MW on April 19, the highest for the city in the month of April. This increase in demand is over 28% since April 1, 2022, when the city saw a demand of 4,469 MW of electricity. The peak demand for electricity on Monday stood at 5,641 MW.

Delhi’s peak power demand has increased by over 42% since March 1, when the city saw 4,040 MW. In the month of April, Delhi’s peak power demand has crossed 5,000 MW in nine days so far. Compared to earlier years, Delhi’s peak power demand in April was not able to cross 5,000 MW even once in 2021 and 2020.
