Web Works to invest ₹197 cr in new Hyper Data Center in Noida

Data center service provider Web Works announces plans to invest with its joint venture partner Iron Mountain Data Centers 197 crore in a new hyper-scale data center in Noida.

Web Works said it will be part of a government-approved data center park with additional investments to launch edge features in major cities of Uttar Pradesh.

According to a statement, the construction of the Noida data center will begin this year with a gross power capacity of 20 MVA and will be live for its customers by 2023. “Following the existing plot of land for the construction of this facility, Web Works has gone ahead and acquired additional land for expansion,” it said.

In May, the Uttar Pradesh government approved three data center parks to make the state the largest center for data storage in North India. Its objective is to provide adequate supply of electricity through “Open Access Scheme”.

On June 2, the Uttar Pradesh government said in an official release: Rs 19,928 crore will be allocated for setting up seven data centres, and Rs 6,632 crore will be allocated for 13 infrastructure projects in the state.

Web Works has announced plans to set up edge data center facilities in all major cities of Uttar Pradesh.

“The local advantage of Uttar Pradesh has made the state attractive for investment in the IT and electronics industry from several major players; Both Indian and Global. Nikhil Rathi, Founder and CEO, WebWorks said, “The expansion of the state makes it viable for WebWorks to increase its investments and launch edge features in major cities.”

“Several e-governance services and online service delivery platforms will transform the state into a major cloud storage consumer for these data centres. Our customers will benefit from local leverage and strong IT ecosystem and availability of quality talent,” Rathi said.

In 2021, Web Works signed an MoU with the Government of Karnataka to set up a data center in Bengaluru. The company has estimated the investment of 750 crores in the project which will be fully operational in two years.

“This development was in line with the announcement of pan-India expansion plans by Web Works and its joint venture partner Iron Mountain Data Center, a global operator,” the company said.

At the end of May, rating agency Icra said that capacity expansion of Indian data centers is likely to see a five-fold growth with projected investment value. from 1.05 lakh 1.2 lakh in the next five years.
