Weight-loss Medicine Semaglutide Also Helps Against Heart-related Diseases: Study – News18

As per the reports, at least 17,000 people were part of the experiment.

Semaglutide is not only helpful in reducing weight but also in reducing cardiovascular issues.

At times, experimenting with new things results in surprising outcomes. A group of scientists has found something interesting while conducting a large-scale clinical trial of a weight loss medicine. The scientists discovered that the same drug not only helps control weight but also prevents cardiovascular issues. In Particular, the medicine has been found to significantly reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

According to the experiments undertaken by Cleveland Clinic’s cardiologist, A Michael Linkoff, the risk of heart attack and stroke can be primarily reduced with the help of the weight loss drug Semaglutide. The same Semaglutide medicine is available in the market under the name of Wegovy.

As per the reports, at least 17,000 people were part of the experiment and by consuming Wegovy, the risk of heart attack in the patients was reduced to a great extent.

For this specific study on semaglutide, the research was undertaken for over 40 months. Currently, semaglutide is used to reduce weight, and apart from that, it has also been used for patients with Type 2 diabetes.

In the recent findings, the scientists have established the results on the people with overweight and cardiovascular disease, wherein a significant improvement has been seen after taking the medicine.

Following the study, Cardiologist Tiffany Powell Wiley mentioned that this study is important as there is a huge population across the world which is massively impacted by weight-related issues. Simultaneously, most of them are also suffering from heart-related problems. In America itself, there are over 60 lakh people with cardiology problems in addition to weight problems, while some of the same ones also have diabetes.

While talking about the semaglutide, Tiffany Powell mentioned that the drug can be a game changer in eliminating crucial diseases. However, the cardiologist also mentioned that it is not known if the drug has a similar effect in all other geographical regions.

The semaglutide has been sold in the market since 2017, however, the drug is made available in the market with different names in most of the countries.
