Welsh Fire has appointed former England all-rounder Mark Allene as assistant coach of the men’s team at The Hundred.

Allene, who represented England in 10 ODIs, will form the Welsh Fire men’s coaching team with head coach Gary Kirsten and fellow assistant coaches Matt Maynard and Jason Kerr.

“I am delighted to join Welsh Fire and have the opportunity to work with Gary Kirsten and his coaching team,” said Allene.

“It is exciting to be able to work closely with elite players and hopefully I can use my experience to add extra value to what they do and help build a winning formula for Welsh Fire I loved watching The Hundred last year and it’s exciting to be involved in a competition that captured the imagination of fans and brought new audiences to cricket.”

Allyne is currently an ECB Test Scout and Assistant Director of Sport at Marlborough College. He traveled with the England men’s T20I team as an assistant coach during the recent tour of the West Indies.

The Welsh Fire men’s side will begin their campaign on 3 August against the Southern Braves at the Ageas Bowl.

The team will then host the Oval Invincible on August 7. The final home game of the competition will see Welsh Fire welcoming the Northern Superchargers for a double header on 26 August.
