A West Bengal cricketer has been booked for forging documents to join the Under-19 Tripura team. The police gave this information on Sunday.

He said the cricketer, a resident of Barrackpore town in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, allegedly forged documents such as Tripura Permanent Resident Certificate (PRTC) and ration card to play for Tripura.

Police said his name was recommended by the Bishalgarh Cricket Association of Sepahijala district to the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) for the Under-19 trial. He was also included in the Under-19 squad announced by TCA on July 11.

On Saturday night, TCA in-charge secretary Kishore Das lodged a police complaint against the cricketer, on the basis of which a case was registered.

Subrata Chakraborty, officer-in-charge of West Agartala police station, said, “We are probing the matter and also trying to identify those who helped him get the forged documents.”

The cricketer had earlier played for Paikpara Sporting Club in North Kolkata.
