The West Bengal government will set up a Center for Financial Policy and Public Finance under the Department of Finance to implement the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-backed reform programme.

The main objective of this center would be to conduct research and studies for better resource mobilization, rationalization of public expenditure and to increase efficiency in public expenditure management, debt stability analysis, debt management and related subjects, as per a recent notification issued by the state. “It will also study and capture, document and disseminate global and national best practices related to good governance in various sectors of the national and state economy, including social sector development. It will provide customized and focused training on public policy including macro-fiscal policies and public financial management to government officials,” it said.

Indeed, for this purpose the department has created 11 posts including one director, additional director, joint director, deputy director and data entry operator apart from vacancies for Group D staff and internship for research associates.
