According to reports, the hackers are demanding a ransom of “minimum 8 digits” in exchange for not revealing the stolen data online.

One of the hackers spoke to TechCrunch and provided details about the data breach.

The report noted, “The hacker shared a file that was digitally signed with Western Digital’s code-signing certificate, showing that they are now digitally copying files to impersonate Western Digital.” can sign.”

The hackers also reportedly shared phone numbers of several executives of the company.

They were also able to steal data from the company’s SAP Backoffice, a back-end interface that helps companies manage e-commerce data.

“We are the worm that breached your company. May need your attention! Continue down this path and we will retaliate,” the hackers reportedly wrote in an email to Western Digital officials.

“All we need is a one-time payment, and then we’ll drop your network and let you know about your vulnerabilities. No permanent damage done. But if there’s an attempt to hack into us, our systems or anything We will strike back,” the hackers wrote.

The company declined to comment about the hacker’s claims.

On 3 April, Western Digital said that cyber criminals expropriated data from its systems during a “network security incident”.

On March 26, Western Digital identified a network security incident involving its systems.

In connection with the ongoing incident, an unauthorized third party gained access to multiple Company systems. Upon learning of the incident, the company implemented response efforts and launched an investigation with the assistance of leading external security and forensics experts.

“This investigation is in its early stages and Western Digital is coordinating with law enforcement authorities,” the company said in a statement.

As part of its remedial efforts, Western Digital was working to restore affected infrastructure and services.
