What did FM Sitharaman say when a student asked about sharing UPI with the world?

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is on a visit to the United States for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, said India is in talks with various countries to make RuPay acceptable in their countries.

“Not only that, UPI, BHIM app and NCPI are all now working in such a way that systems in their own country, however robust or otherwise, can talk to our systems and inter-operability will only power those countries. for the expertise of Indians in India,” he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Finance Minister It also said that India is working with many countries. This came in response to a question from an Indian student at the University of Maryland, who wanted to have UPI in the United States as well.

Sitharaman made the remarks during a fireside chat with eminent economist Ishwar Prasad at the prestigious Brookings Institute think-tank.

“I am a student here at the University of Maryland. I am really proud of our UPI system in India. I just wanted to ask what are the future plans for the UPI system and how can we share it with the world? Specifically In the US, what I miss the most is India not having a UPI system in the US,” the Indian student asked Sitharaman.

The Finance Minister replied, “We are talking to different countries. Singapore and UAE have all come forward to make RuPay acceptable in their countries.”

saying about next year budget of indiaHe said that the upcoming annual budget of the country has to be prepared very carefully to maintain the pace of development of the country.

“The specification (of the next budget) may be difficult at this stage as it is a bit early. But broadly speaking, development priorities will be kept at the very top. Even when I speak about the concerns that inflation brings to me. Therefore, inflation concerns have to be addressed. But then how will you manage the development, it will be a natural question.”

India’s next annual budget is to be presented by FM Sitharaman before Parliament next February and its preparation is likely to begin in December.
