In what has been called the ‘blizzard of the century’, the world’s tallest waterfall has frozen over and not a drop is flowing. Due to the massive flow of 3,160 tonnes of water it is nearly impossible for the fall to freeze completely, but over the years the fall has turned into a partially frozen wonderland. The water in Niagara falls at the rate of 32 feet per second.

In the pictures coming out on the Internet, Niagara Falls has completely turned into ice and looks like an icy paradise. The part of Niagara Falls on the American side has frozen only 5 times so far. Whenever this waterfall used to freeze, the flow of water was affected at that time. Steel ice booms were installed here in 1644 to prevent the waterfall from freezing over.

Until 1912, tourists used to cross this waterfall by an ice bridge. A beautiful view of the base of the waterfall was visible from here. But on February 4, 1912, three people died here by falling into the Niagara River due to breaking of ice. Since then, the authorities have banned walking on the bridge.
