WhatsApp chat import: WhatsApp reportedly testing ability to import chats from Android to iOS devices – Times of India

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp Reportedly testing the ability to import chats Android For phones running iOS. The company has already rolled out the feature to migrate chat history from iOS to Samsung and Pixel phones last year.
WhatsApp feature tracker WaBetaInfo has spotted the feature on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.12. A screenshot has also been shared in the report which shows that WhatsApp will ask the user’s permission to import the chat history before initiating the process. It states that migrating your chat history from Android to iOS will require the Move to iOS app.
According to the report, the feature is currently in development. It will be made available to beta users in future updates and will be widely rolled out later.
As of now, WhatsApp supports Samsung-branded Android devices running Android 10 or higher to transfer chats from iOS device. In terms of what data can be migrated, the company says that this will include voice messages, photos and videos. This will not include peer to peer payment messages and call history.
When you set up a new device, you will be provided with the option to securely transfer your chats from your old device to your new device. This process will require a USB-C to Lightning cable, Samsung SmartSwitch app version 3.7.22.1 or higher on the new device. Users should be running WhatsApp iOS version 2.21.160.17 or higher on their old device and WhatsApp Android version 2.21.16.20 or higher on the new device. Prior to this feature, it was difficult for Android and iOS users to migrate their chat history between different devices.
