WhatsApp disables one-time viewing feature for these users

Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp no ​​longer allows its desktop users to send one-time messages. As reported by WaBetaInfo, an online platform that tracks new and upcoming features WhatsApp, Desktop users can no longer send and open messages once. This includes WhatsApp Web/Desktop (Electron version), WhatsApp for Windows (universal Windows platform version), and WhatsApp Beta for macOS (native Catalyst app).

Why has WhatsApp disabled the one-time viewing feature on the desktop?

As per the report, the decision to remove the one-time feature from the desktop is due to its compatibility with the screenshot blocking feature. This adds an extra layer of security when the user sends a message once.

While a user cannot take a one-time screenshot of Messages on their smartphone, they can open Messages once on their desktop to take a screenshot. This could result in breach of confidentiality of the sender. With the new changes, WhatsApp ensures that the recipient is unable to take a screenshot of the message once it is on the desktop.

However, they can still take a screenshot of a message’s view at once using a secondary phone. Therefore, it is advised to be careful while sending a message or media once a view on WhatsApp to other users.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has introduced four new features to enhance the user experience. This includes the ability to create in-chat polls with Communities on WhatsApp feature, 32-person video calling, groups of up to 1024 users.
