When the late Vinod Khanna launched his son Akshay with the 1997 film Himalaya Putra, he was considered the next big thing in Bollywood. Though the film bombed at the box office, Akshaye Khanna was noticed and soon he was cast in the famous war film Border in the same year, which fetched him much acclaim and recognition. However, he could not match the success of Border with his next films and only a few of them like Humraaz, Taal, Hungama, Dil Chahta Hai and Race did well. By the late 2000s, he had almost disappeared from the public eye, except for a few occasional appearances in supporting roles.
Many cinema lovers as well as the media have cited his premature baldness as one of the reasons for the decline in his career. However, the actor says that though hair loss bothered him initially, he is now surprised by it.
Akshay mentioned his hair loss at a young age in an interview with Mid Day in 2020, when he discussed about his appearance and hair. He commented, “For me, it was like a pianist losing his fingers because it started happening to me at such a young age.
“It was really up to me until you accepted that and it started bothering you less. If you’re a player and you find out you need knee surgery it’s It’s heartbreaking because you could miss a year or two of your career.”
This was not the first time Akshay had raised the subject. When asked who has the worst hairdo Bollywood In a rapid-fire round in an old episode of Koffee With Karan, Akshay replied with his name. “Some people need hearing aids, while others have back problems, eye problems, or both. Some may think I am a complete idiot, but for me it is a part of life. He continued by saying that it was not a big issue for him but a small one.
Akshay was last seen in a leading role in last year’s Zee5 film State of Siege: Temple Attack and a small cameo in Hungama 2, which was also an OTT release. He is currently shooting for Drishyam 2 directed by Abhishek Pathak.
