Surdas Jayanti 2023: Sant Surdas was a 15th century poet and saint who was a devotee of Lord Krishna. He was blind from birth but was blessed with a divine sight which allowed him to see the beauty of God. His poetry mainly revolves around love and devotion to Lord Krishna. He was born in 1478 CE, as believed by historians. His place of birth still remains a matter of disagreement as some believe that he was born in Sihi village of Faridabad, Haryana while others claim that his place of birth is Runkata near Agra.

Surdas Jayanti is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Saint Surdas. Although he was blind, he wrote and composed hundreds of songs in his own tune called Sur Sagar. His fame grew so much that he was contracted to play in Akbar’s Mughal court.

This year, Surdas Jayanti will be celebrated on 25 April. While it does not have an exact date in the Gregorian calendar, according to the Hindu calendar, his birth anniversary is celebrated on Panchami Tithi or the fifth day in the month of Vaishakh.
