Whey protein shots may help control type 2 diabetes, new research suggests

A new study has shown the potential of dietary management for type 2 diabetics. In this research, participants were asked to drink a small serving of whey protein before a meal. Research has shown promise that protein supplements can help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Participants in this study were given a preformed shot of whey protein before a meal and were then monitored for a week as they went about their daily lives. To understand the true benefits of the test, the same people spent a week drinking the control shot without the protein. This helped the researchers measure the results against each other.

After studying the participants through glucose monitoring, the study showed that while taking the protein shots, glucose levels were significantly better than those without. Additionally, daily blood sugar levels were 0.6 mmol/L lower than when they had the control shot.

Dr Daniel West, Principal Investigator and Senior Lecturer, working with the Center for Human Nutrition Research and Diabetes Research Group at Newcastle University, UK, said: “While previous studies of a few hours in the laboratory have shown the potential of this dietary intervention, this is the first There are times when people have been kept under watch to lead a normal life.”

He continued, “We believe that whey protein works in two ways, first, by slowing the passage of food through the digestive tract and second, by stimulating several important hormones that keep blood sugar from rising so high. stop.”

The findings of this study were published in BMJ Open Diabetes Research and Care. Diabetes occurs when our pancreas stops working. Beta cells present in the pancreas work to produce insulin, which in turn helps in controlling the sugar level in our body.
