With KKR needing 29 off the last over, Rinku hit five consecutive sixes to finish unbeaten on 48 off 21 balls. KKR looked in trouble after Rashid Khan took a hat-trick in the 17th over. He hit a four and a six in the last over to bring the equation down to 29 in 6 balls, before doing the impossible in the final over. Rinku was trending on social media after the match was over.
Born in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rinku was retained by KKR ahead of IPL 2023 for Rs 55 lakh. He was first bought by KKR in 2018 for Rs 80 lakh. Even though the first season was not very good, his potential was considered and he was retained for IPL 2019 as well.
Rinku works on his batting with KKR assistant coach Abhishek Nayar During the off-season at the KKR academy and the results were quite visible in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy outing for Uttar Pradesh.
He became the third highest run-scorer of the tournament (953 runs in 10 innings) with four centuries to his name.
The 25-year-old, who was part of the Kings XI Punjab team (now Punjab Kings) in 2017, was handed a three-month suspension by the BCCI for participating in the Ramadan T20 tournament in Abu Dhabi without permission. ,
