All that was shining in New York City’s Central Park this week was gold. On Wednesday, a giant cube made of pure gold appeared at the iconic location, complete with its own security detail. Made of 186 kilograms of pure 24-karat gold, the cube was created by German artist Niklas Castello. According to daily mailThe artist dropped it in the middle of Central Park as a publicity stunt to draw attention to a new cryptocurrency.

“Never before in the history of humanity has such a large amount of gold been poured into a pure, pure object. Gold – the eternal metal. Symbol of the sun, of light, of good,” he said in the description of his artwork.

in a message to artnet news, Mr Castello called the cube “a conceptual work of art in all its aspects”. He said the idea is to “create something that is beyond our world—that which is intangible.”

With this concept in mind, the cryptocurrency “Castello Coin” was launched with physical artwork. A related NFT will also go up for auction later this month.

new York Times reported that Mr. Castello, 43, only displayed the gold cube for one day to emphasize the rarity of the artwork. The artist also said that the cube is not ready for sale. If that were the case, the gold used in it alone would have been worth $11.7 million.

According to Mr. Castello’s team, making a gold cube requires a special handmade kiln that can adjust the size and quantity of the metal, while reaching the extreme temperatures needed to melt it. The cube measures one and a half feet from each side.

After being removed from public display in Central Park, it was taken to a private dinner, which was reportedly attended by several celebrities.
