History of World Turtle Day
American Turtle Rescue (ATR) came about with World Turtle Day in 1990. It is a non-profit organization that saves and rehabilitates all turtles and tortoise species. This day was created so that people can celebrate turtles and also participate in programs to protect turtles and tortoises.
Importance of World Turtle Day
Turtles are one of the oldest reptile groups in the world, far outnumbering snakes, alligators, and alligators. These creatures predate the dinosaurs, which evolved over 250 million years ago. Apparently, there are 300 types of turtles in the world, of which 129 are endangered. This is the reason why World Turtle Day is celebrated internationally. On this day people are reminded how important it is to help turtles live and thrive in their natural habitat.
Individuals and groups host many turtle conservation programs and activities. Many seminars are also organized in the schools for the students to know about this day.
