Bangladesh Test captain Shakib Al Hasan said that if his teammate and predecessor Mominul Haque needs some time off from cricket to recover, he is ready to do so.

Mominul is struggling to get himself between the runs. He scored 0 and 4 in the first Test against the West Indies, who won it by seven wickets on the fourth day. The left-handed batsman went to second slip and then got stuck in front in his two outings.

Shakib said, “It is difficult for me to say this, but I talk to him (Mominul) regularly and we will talk again.” “If he feels he needs a break, then it can happen. It’s not ideal to make a decision right after the match. We have a break of two days. The day after our training in St. Lucia, we will think about it That’s what’s best for the team.”

Bangladesh were bundled out for 103 and 245 against West Indies. The visiting team lost its first four wickets for less than 100 runs. Only Shakib managed to score more than fifty in both the innings and Nurul Hasan registered a score of over fifty in his second innings.

Asked if there is a need to try a different combination in the next Test, Shakib said, “You cannot guarantee that too many changes will be good for the team.

“But if you look at the numbers, we have lost four wickets for less than 100 runs in 12 out of 16 innings. It is quite worrying. Only a concerted team effort can get us out of here. Can get out. Out of this. We’ve been here before, so I’m sure we can come out.”

The second Test between Bangladesh and West Indies will be played at Gros Islet from June 24.
