Will Apple abandon physical buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro? here we know

Previous reports have indicated that Apple is ditching the classical physical buttons from the high-end models of its 2023 iPhone series – the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. But, it seems that the company’s plan to do so has been derailed.

According to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino-based company will not add solid-state buttons with haptic feedback to the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Cause? Unresolved technical issue.

“My latest survey indicates that due to unresolved technical issues prior to mass production, both high-end iphone 15 pro The models (Pro and Pro Max) will drop the closely spaced solid-state button design and revert to the traditional physical button design,” he says in a report.

Apple is rumored to drop the volume rocker and alert slider with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. The button was expected to be replaced by a solid-state button with capacitive touch, similar to the home button on the older iPhone.

According to Kuo, this could hurt investors because “the new solid-state button design will increase the suppliers’ revenue and profits; thus, this change will particularly affect Cirrus Logic (the exclusive controller IC supplier) and AAC Technologies ( Taptic Engine supplier).”

However, the iPhone 15 Pro is currently in the Engineering Validation Testing (EVT) development stage, so there is still time to modify the design, he says. If the new models drop the much-anticipated solid-state buttons and restore physical buttons, the development and testing process will be simplified, with limited impact on mass production. This means that the new 2023 iPhones will ship at the usual time.

Apple iPhone 15 series may launch later this year in September. One significant change coming with the iPhone 15 Pro is the USB Type-C port that will replace the existing Lightning port. The Cupertino-based company is said to reduce the size of the bezels and notch. According to a report by 9to5Mac, the iPhone 15 Pro could have bezels as thin as 1.55mm. Both the front and back are rumored to feature a subtle curvature of the glass edges that will seamlessly transition into the titanium frame of the device.
