‘Will set an example through case’: UAPA’s FIR against Kashmir medical students for anti-India sloganeering

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered two FIRs against the hostel warden, management and students of two medical colleges in Srinagar where students created a ruckus and raised derogatory anti-India slogans after they won the match against India in Dubai on Sunday.

Several videos from the Government Medical College (GMC) and Sher e Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar went viral, in which some students can be seen raising slogans against India and in praise of Pakistan. The commotion broke out when Home Minister Amit Shah was on his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the first since the abrogation of Article 370 from the erstwhile state.

“An FIR has been registered at Soura and Karan Nagar police stations in Srinagar city under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 505 of the Indian Penal Code. At present our investigation is going on. We will set an example through this matter,” said a senior J&K Police official.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police is currently watching the video in detail and is questioning the staff of these colleges to identify the students who were involved in such activities on the campus on Sunday night.

“We are watching all the videos in detail. Most of the videos that have surfaced are old and from 2017. So we need to be very careful. Some of the videos from GMC and SKIMS are from Sunday night. Everything will be clear with the investigation”, the J&K Police sources added.

Social media has been flooded with comments from across India by angry people over the viral video and demanding action by the J&K government and police against the medical students.

“Such doctors are a threat to humanity. How will they treat the soldiers posted in Kashmir, only God knows! A female medical student of the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, said on condition of anonymity.

Till the filing of this report, no arrest has been made in this case so far.
