Tumakuru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Said on Saturday that the government will take strict steps for investigation Corruption in government offices by improving the conviction rate.
“Many factors are responsible for the low conviction rate. We will identify them and ensure that they do not come in between.
Apart from the role of investigating officers, issues such as production of complainants and witnesses before the court will be dealt with. He said that appropriate legal advice would be taken from the experts.
Bommai said the prosecution will have to take the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raids very seriously and the government is planning to further tighten the norms governing the procedures after the raids.
The CM said that after the raid of ACB, there should be a strict investigation into the cases. “It should be done in a very professional manner and chargesheet should be filed in the court against the culprits in a short span of time,” he said.
Bommai said there is a need to enhance the coordination between the ACB and the prosecution to increase the conviction rate in corruption cases. “I will take action to plug the existing loopholes in the law and see that corrupt persons cannot escape by misusing them,” he said.
He said that if the ACB officials have enough evidence against the corrupt officials, then the higher authorities will surely allow them to investigate against the accused and there is no question of freeing any corrupt officer.
On the implementation of the BJP’s 2018 manifesto to restore prosecuting powers to the Lokayukta, he said he cannot speak on the issue as the high court is hearing a petition questioning the constitution of the ACB by the Lokayukta. He said, ‘We have seen that ACB is doing a great job. We have given it a free hand.
