Wimbledon: Home favorite Emma Raducanu prevailed by Caroline Garcia

Emma Raducanu’s Wimbledon hopes were crushed by France’s Caroline Garcia on center court as the British sport’s golden girl suffered a 6-3, 6-3 second round loss on Wednesday.

Radukanu, 19, is the current US Open champion, but she ran as a player on a roll. The 28-year-old French woman won her seventh match in a row.

Garcia won the Bad Homburg title last week in Germany for his first title in three years.

Radukanu, seeded 10, had reached the fourth round at the All England Club last year at the age of 18 as a wild card entry.

Garcia, a former top-10 player, troubled 10th seed Radukanu with his aggressive hitting in the opening set.

She continued to blaze in the second set as Radukanu lost despite overwhelming support.

Garcia broke the serve 3–3 and took a 5–3 lead to win the next game with a backhand pass, his 25th winner of the match.

“Emma is a big player and in her domestic tournaments she proved she can do very well on the big stage,” Garcia said.

“I really enjoyed playing on center court, it was my first time and it was very special.”

Since his sensational win at Flushing Meadows last year, Radukanu has struggled with minor injuries.

She has also come under scrutiny for failing to stay in the coach for long.
