‘With highly efficient organization…’ Anand Mahindra lauds BRO amid India-China standoff

Amid border conflict between India and China in Arunachal Pradesh, Anand Mahindra has praised the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for creating “world-class” infrastructure at the borders.

The industrialist wrote on Twitter, “Excellent. With highly motivated and efficient organizations like @BROindia we are no less capable than our neighbor in building world class infrastructure to support our forces”.

Mahindra’s tweet comes at a time when the BRO is building roads in Arunachal districts along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

BRO plays a vital role in the development and maintenance of road infrastructure in the border areas. Part of the Indian Armed Forces, BRO contributes to the socio-economic development of the border states.

Under “Project Vartak”, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) is developing and maintaining all road networks in major border areas of western Assam and western Arunachal Pradesh.

“We also have national highways, single-lane roads, double-lane roads and other types of roads. We also want to connect far-flung areas of Tawang district and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region , ” said Brigadier Raman Kumar.

Presently, two tunnels– the Sela Tunnel and Nechiphu Tunnel – are under construction in the area as heavy snowfall during winter makes vehicular movement difficult.

Brig Kumar said, “Sela tunnel is under construction and is 400 meters below Sela Pass. Once the tunnel is built, people will be able to pass through it even in winters. We are also working on Nechiphu tunnel near Nechiphu Pass.” Once they are completed, the movement of both military as well as civilian vehicles will be much smoother. This will not only boost infrastructure in the area but also boost tourism.

Apart from road connectivity and other infrastructure development works, the government is working to strengthen mobile connectivity in Tawang and other border areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

More mobile towers have been installed along the LAC in Tawang and other border areas of Tawang district.
