Woman doctor injects herself with 4 doses of anesthesia in Bhopal hostel, dies: Police

Bhopal:

A 24-year-old woman doctor allegedly committed suicide by injecting herself with anesthesia at the hostel of Government Gandhi Medical College (GMC) in Bhopal.

The body of the woman, identified as Akanksha Maheshwari, was found in her hostel room on Wednesday evening, the official said.

Koh-e-Fiza police station in-charge Vijay Sisodia said police recovered an empty injection vial and a syringe from his room.

A “suicide note” was found in the room in which she allegedly wrote that she was not mentally strong and was unable to cope with the stress. She also mentioned that she was taking the extreme step due to personal reasons and no one was responsible for it, they said.

The woman also said sorry to her parents in the note.

He said Akanksha Maheshwari was pursuing post-graduation in paediatrics stream from the government-run GMC and was in the first year of the course.

According to other people living in the hostel, the door of the woman’s room was locked since Wednesday morning. The official said that when they came back in the evening, they were shocked to see that it was still closed and they alerted the security guards and the medical management management about it.

He said that after getting the information, the police who reached the spot forcibly opened the door and found the woman dead in the room.

She was a resident of Gwalior and had joined GMC about a month back. The officer said that he spoke to his family members around 7 am on Wednesday.

The officer said the police have registered a case and are probing the incident.
