Woman in tears after discovering her brother’s name at National War Memorial

For Shagun Sambyal, initially it was an unplanned visit to the National War Memorial in Delhi. However, once he saw his brother’s name inscribed on a placard, his feelings flared up, bringing tears to his eyes. The heartwarming moment was captured in a video shot by Shagun’s husband, who later shared it on his Instagram page. In the video, Shagun can be seen gazing at the placard in the name of his brother Captain KD Sambyal.

Further in the video, the woman’s husband points the camera at the plaque revealing his brother’s name in golden letters. Shagun cannot hold back her tears when her brother’s name comes up unexpectedly at the memorial as she keeps looking at the plaque.

Describing the incident, Shagun’s husband also wrote a small note along with the video. In the note, he explained, “Today we randomly planned our trip to Delhi and after visiting Connaught Place, I told my wife that let’s visit the National War Memorial.”

He further shared that as he approached the Kargil War Martyrs Khand, he clicked some pictures of plaques bearing the names of Captain Vikram Batra and Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia. Thereafter, he asked his wife to see the plaque of MVC Capt. Vijayant Thapar. As they searched, Shagun found her brother’s name among the placards and could not contain her excitement. Shagun said to her husband, “Look, this is brother’s name.”

He further wrote that Shagun had no knowledge of his brother having a plaque and neither did his family know about it. “She was shocked and emotional at the same time,” he said. Notably, Captain KD Sambyal hailed from the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir and was part of the 193 Field Regiment of the Indian Army.

The emotional video soon went viral and garnered over 1 million likes on Instagram. Meanwhile, users in the comments section brought tears to their eyes as they paid respects to Shagun’s fallen brother and all the brave hearts. One user wrote, ‘Salute to every soldier of the army. Another wrote, “Salute to all the soldiers who made sacrifices for our country.”
