Woman with ‘fused’ kidney gives life to husband

A woman who was born with a “fused” kidney has donated one of her kidneys to her husband. Her husband was admitted to a private hospital here and his kidney had failed. The doctors gave this information. A “fused” kidney is usually a congenital defect, whereby both of your kidneys are fused, giving them a cord-like shape.

Ananth Kumar, senior doctor at the hospital, said preliminary tests conducted to ascertain the eligibility of the woman for kidney donation revealed that her kidney was shaped like a horseshoe. Kumar said that even after this complication, the woman was healthy and was eligible to donate a kidney. He said that this complex work was done, which was successful. A team led by Kumar carried out the robot-assisted operation.
