Women Police: Govt. Informs HC that he is withdrawing GO

The State Government informed the Division Bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice BS Bhanumathi that it is withdrawing the G.O.Ms.No.59 dated June 23, 2021, through which certain amendments were made in the AP (Gram) were go. Women Protection Worker/Ward Women Protection Worker) Subordinate Services Rules, 2019.

The accused GO was blamed for demanding the handing over of Ward and Village Women Security Secretaries (WPS), designated as “Women Police”, to be discharged by the Police Department.

The amendments were to give them the same rights and powers and uniform as women constables, to create additional head constable posts for promotion and to make them representative of the nearest police stations.

During Thursday’s hearing, the concerned public prosecutor told the court that the GO is being withdrawn to consider how else to use the services of WPS. The petitioners were represented by Advocate N. Srinivasa Rao. The court then ordered that a detailed affidavit be filed within a week.
